Clinical features
The individual with mesenteric adenitis is usually under 30 years of age and presents with abdominal pain, which may be generalised or localised, possibly in the right iliac fossa. There is little guarding or rebound, and moderate tenderness. The patient may be pyrexial and there may be diarrhoea, with or without vomiting, or a recent upper respiratory tract infection.
