Spider naevi must be differentiated from:

  • Campbell de Morgan spots - which do not blanch on pressure
  • venous stars - typically, larger than spider naevi; may occur on the feet and legs; and do not obliterate on pressure
  • hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia
