- inflammatory colitis:

- Crohn's disease
- bacterial infections:
- Clostridium difficile pseudomembranous colitis
- Salmonella:
- typhoid
- non-typhoid
- Shigella
- Campylobacter
- Yersinia
- Yersinia
- parasitic infections:
- Entamoeba histolytica
- Cryptosporidium
- viral infections:
- Cytomegalovirus colitis
- culture negative colitis
