Management of sac
- dissection is undertaken to the level of the fascia
- the hernia sac is identified
- the contents of the hernia sac are reduced
- then the sac is disconnected from its attachment with the umbilicus
- in order to help to prevent injury of the bowel the anterior surface of the sac may be opened
