Authoring team

A standard physical examination is carried out with particular reference to:

  • a thorough cardiorespiratory exam:
    • hypertension
    • dyspnoea, cardiomegaly, peripheral oedema
    • cough, productive or not
    • murmurs, documented or new
  • hydration:
    • skin turgor
    • urine output, fluid intake
    • blood pressure, pulse
  • sites for intravenous access
  • cervical spine - may require lateral radiograph - and lower jaw mobility
  • loose or damaged teeth, presence of dentures
