Ongoing losses
Ongoing fluid losses can be directly measured - for example in drains or nasogastric aspirates. They can also be estimated from measured parameters; thus it is suggested that 10% be added to maintenance for every degree a child is pyrexial above 37.8øC, or if the child is tachypnoeic.
