Metabolism difference of drugs in children include:
- deficient - hepatic oxidative metabolism - glucoronidase
- diazepam - deficient hydroxylation in newborn
- phenytoin hydroxylation - half life is 30 to 60 hours in neonate, 2 to 7 hours at one month, 20 to 30 hours as an adult
- theophylline half life is 14 to 58 hours in premature neonate, 3.5 to 8 hours in adult
- chloramphenicol - drug accumulates - vomiting, failure to suck, poor respiration, cyanosis, loose green stools, hypothermia, flaccidity, ashen-grey, aplastic anaemia
