Regulation
The concentration of plasma phosphate is dependent upon:
- plasma calcium concentration
- parathyroid hormone; decreases renal reabsorption
- 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol increases gastrointestinal absorption
- insulin increases phosphate uptake into liver and muscle
- to a limited extent, plasma protein concentration
