Anti-emesis and labyrinthine sedation

Prochlorperazine may be used as an antiemetic and a labyrinthine sedative.

Doses:

  • orally:
    • 20 mg then 10 mg two hours later
    • maintenance dose of 5-10 mg two to three times a day

  • intramuscular injection:
    • 12.5 mg as required

  • rectally:
    • 25 mg as required

Smaller doses in children.

Contraindications and side-effects are common to other phenothiazines.
