Mechanism
A re-entrant tachycardia results from a sustained circuit of depolarisation, usually consisting of:
- anterograde conduction down the relatively slow AV node
- conduction to the ventricles along the His-Purkinje system
- retrograde conduction up the relatively rapid accessory pathway
The result is usually a regular narrow complex tachycardia.
