Dosage
Treatment should be initiated with 500 mg taken once or twice daily. This low dose may permit early detection of behavioural side-effects and may allow tolerance to sedation.
The daily dose is increased by 1 g monthly; the optimal dose is in the range 2-3 g/day (the maximum daily dose of vigabatrin has been reduced to 3g) (1).
In the treatment of infantile spasms the daily doses are (1):
- initiation: 40 mg/kg
- final: 80-150 mg/kg
