The dose-limiting toxic effects vary with respect to different alkaloid, for example

  • myelosuppression with vinblastine
  • neurotoxicity with vincristine - sensorimotor peripheral neuropathy

Other side effects include:

  • paralytic ileus
  • alopecia
  • joint pain
  • inappropriate ADH secretion

The toxicity of these compounds may be potentiated in patients with obstructive jaundice.
