Transfer

The Barthel Index score for the ability to transfer is assessed on the following scale:

• 3 needs no help, including locking their own wheelchair
• 2 needs minor help, verbal or physical, or can transfer with one person alone, for example the spouse
• 1 needs major help, defined as two people or one strong or trained person, but able to sit unaided
• 0 needs more help than the above
