Problems in geriatrics
Many of the problems in geriatrics fall into the so-called big four, or 4 i's:
- intellectual impairment/confusion
- immobility
- instability
- incontinence
In addition to this there are many other problems, but most of what is seen in gerontology is a summation of, what would be on their own, minor pathologies, adding together to render an individual in some way handicapped - i.e. unable to fulfil a particular role in society.
