If child 2-5 years old
Assess the severity of asthma and manage accordingly:
moderate asthma
| acute severe asthma
| life threatening asthma SpO2 <92% and any one of the following in a child with severe asthma:

assess response to treatment 15 mins after β2 agonist | immediate management

if poor response arrange admission | if poor response repeat β2 agonist and arrange admission | repeat β2 agonist via oxygen driven nebuliser whilst arranging immediate hospital admission |

Lower threshold for admission if:
- attack in late afternoon or at night
- recent hospital admission or previous attack
- concern over social circumstances or ability to cope at home
Note if a patient has symptoms and signs across categories then always treat according to their most severe features.
