Indications for the induction of preterm labour
Premature birth may be iatrogenically induced for a variety of reasons, including:
- pregnancy-induced proteinuric hypertension, for example pre-eclampsia or eclampsia
- maternal renal disease or cardiac disease
- intrauterine infection - particularly after premature rupture of membranes
- antepartum haemorrhage
- intrauterine growth retardation
