Malabsorption
Folate is absorbed principally in the proximal jejunum.
Malabsorption causing folate deficiency may be due to:
- gluten-induced enteropathy
- resection of the small bowel
- Crohn's disease
- tropical sprue
- Whipple's disease
- GI lymphoma
- congenital specific malabsorption
