Thrombosis
- occurs in 25% of cases
- may dominate the clinical picture if coagulation is activated to a much greater degree than fibrinolysis
- often manifests as digital ischaemia and gangrene
- thrombophlebitis is often seen in subacute DIC, particularly in patients with cancer (Trousseau's sign)
- major arterial or venous thromboembolism is uncommon
