Clinical features
- usual presentation is of slowly progressive lymphadenopathy - in some patients lymphadenopathy may be fluctuating
- systemic symptoms, such as fever, night sweats, weight loss in excess of 10%
- if systemic symptoms develop then the clinician should consider possibility of progression to an intermediate-grade or high-grade lymphoma
- bone marrow dysfunction can lead to features such as anaemia, leukopaenia, or thrombocytopenia
- bone marrow dysfunction is rare at presentation but may occur in the later stages of the disease
- lymphadenopathy
- typically are nontender, firm, and rubbery in consistency
- at presentation, splenomegaly is present in approximately 50%
