  • usual presentation is of slowly progressive lymphadenopathy - in some patients lymphadenopathy may be fluctuating
  • systemic symptoms, such as fever, night sweats, weight loss in excess of 10%
    • if systemic symptoms develop then the clinician should consider possibility of progression to an intermediate-grade or high-grade lymphoma
    • bone marrow dysfunction can lead to features such as anaemia, leukopaenia, or thrombocytopenia
      • bone marrow dysfunction is rare at presentation but may occur in the later stages of the disease
    • lymphadenopathy
      • typically are nontender, firm, and rubbery in consistency
      • at presentation, splenomegaly is present in approximately 50%
