Fresh frozen plasma can be used to treat burns in children. It has the advantages of:

  • contains all of osmotic load of plasma
  • contains clotting factors
  • provides passive immunity

However, it is not widely used as:

  • it is relatively expensive
  • there is a risk of viral transmission
