Leukoerythroblastic anaemia
This is defined when there are immature cells (myelocytes and normoblasts) seen on the peripheral blood film.
Features include:
- usually normocytic normochromic anaemia with numerous poikilocytes
- normoblasts (nucleated red cells)
- low-grade reticulocytosis (2-5%)
- circulating immature white cells, generally myelocytes and promyelocytes
- thrombocytopaenia is more common than thrombocythaemia
