Leukaemia as a medical emergency
Acute leukaemia may present as a medical emergency:
- sepsis - broad-spectrum antibiotics
- leucostasis - leucopheresis plus chemotherapy
- disseminated intravascular coagulation - replacement of platelets, coagulation factors and fibrinogen; heparin is also sometimes used
