Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia is the most common fungal lung infection in patients with AIDS.

it is one of the first HIV related clinical problems (1)

Other fungal lung infections are caused by:

Cryptococcus neoformans
Aspergillus fumigatus
- although exposure to Aspergillus is common, Aspergillosis develops only in patients with prolonged severe immunosuppression (1)
Histoplasma capsulatum
