Clinical features
The patient may present acutely with:
- fever
- lymphadenopathy
- hepatosplenomegaly
There may be a long latent period, for example 20 years, followed by signs of:
- multiorgan invasion and damage, affecting especially the heart and smooth muscle of the gut
Gastrointestinal features include:
- megaoesophagus
- dilated stomach
- megacolon
Cardiac features include:
- dilated cardiomyopathy
- conduction defects
