- feel all the peripheral pulses:
- femoral
- popliteal
- foot pulses
- pulses that are absent in one leg are highly suggestive of arterial disease; their absence in both legs may be due to bilateral disease or to other reasons, for example, a response to the cold
- test the muscles and nerves
