Signs of shock in bacterial meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence have listed the following as features of "shock" (1)

• capillary refill time more than 2 seconds
• unusual skin colour
• tachycardia and/or hypotension
• respiratory symptoms or breathing difficulty
• leg pain
• cold hands or feet
• toxic or moribund state
• altered mental state or decreased conscious level
• poor urine output
