Coccidioidomycosis in pregnancy
If this infection is acquired during pregnancy then the infection is often aggressive.
The later that the infection is acquired then the greater risk of disseminated disease and, maternal and foetal or neonatal mortality. Amphotericin B therapy should be given and termination of pregnancy or early delivery should be considered, depending on the stage of pregnancy.
If an infant acquires C. immitis infection in the postnatal period then these children also have a higher mortality rate than older children and adults.
