Epidemiology
Femoral herniae have the following points in their epidemiology:
- third most common type of groin hernia after direct and indirect inguinal hernias
- less common than inguinal hernias in both men and women
- four times more common in women than men:
- one third of all groin hernias in women
- 2% of all groin hernias in men
- higher frequency in parous women
- twice as common on the right than the left side
