HIV related thrombocytopenia
Two forms of HIV related thrombocytopenia are recognised:
- that associated with the pancytopenia seen in AIDS
- solitary thrombocytopenia - occurs prior to development of AIDS in seropositive individuals; indistinguishable from classical ITP except that it involves circulating immune complexes and C1 rather tham IgG autoantibodies.
Treatment is with zidovudine.
