Investigation of a suspected infection
Investigations should be performed promptly:
- specimens for culture - any culture grown is significant
- differential blood count
- biochemistry
- blood gases
- chest radiograph
Other more rapid diagnostic methods may also be available:
- direct microscopy
- immunofluoresence
