Management of AIDS-related non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
All patients with AIDS-related, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma should have their disease fully staged with CT or MRI scans, bone marrow aspiration, CSF sampling and immunohistochemical staining.
Patients with high-grade lymphomas should then go on to receive combination chemotherapy followed by highly active anti-viral therapy (HAART).
- since the introduction of HAART, the median survival time of patients have increased form 2-13 months (with chemotherapy) to around 24 months (with HAART) (1)
Prophylaxis against Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia should also be considered.
