Specific treatment
Specific treatments include:
- volume plasmapheresis with fresh frozen replacement is the treatment of choice, but the mechanism of action of this treatment has yet to be defined
- plasmapheresis may be indicated if there is oliguria, and may be the only method of infusing sufficient fresh frozen plasma
- anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy - role is not yet proven
