Treatment of recurrent bedwetting after previous successful treatment

Authoring team

Following successful treatment with an alarm:

  • in people who have started regularly bedwetting - consider alarm treatment once again

  • in people who have more than one recurrence of bedwetting - offer combination treatment with an alarm and desmopressin

Following response to previous desmopressin treatment courses:

  • in people who experience repeated recurrences - consider using repeated courses of desmopressin

  • withdraw desmopressin gradually rather than stopping it suddenly

  • if an alarm is now considered appropriate and desirable - consider alarm treatment as an alternative to restarting desmopressin

Perform regular medication reviews for repeated courses of drug treatment in bed wetting (1)
