Precautions in the GP surgery

Precautions required in GP surgeries, clinics etc if patient has MRSA:

  • where possible the patient should be last in a session.
  • they should not be left waiting for long periods of time.
  • gloves and aprons should be worn by staff for patient contact.
  • hands must be washed thoroughly after removing gloves and once the treatment has been completed.
  • equipment that has been in contact with the patient should be cleaned with hot water and detergent followed by a thorough drying. Advice should be sought from the Infection Control Team if equipment cannot be cleaned by this method
