Prophylaxis in neutropaenic patients
Example protocol:
Prophylaxis for patients with a neutrophil count below 0.5.
Use only during periods of neutropaenia.
- ciprofloxacin 500 mg bd
- colistin 1.5 mu bd
Topical mouthcare
- corsodyl mouthwash qds
- amphotericin lozenges qds
Acyclovir in specific situations only:
- allogenic bone marrow transplant (BMT) patients at high risk for CMV - 400 mg qds
- other BMT patients - 200 mg qds
- non-BMT patients with a history of HSV or VZV infection during neutropaenia
- lymphoid malignancy - 200 mg qds
