Diagnosis
- microfilariae in skin snips of nodules
- Onchocerca seen on slit lamp examination of the anterior chamber of the eye
- a positive Mazzotti's test
- there is often an eosinophilia
- polymerase chain reaction
Serology is of little use, as positivity in the general population of affected areas is likely to be high.
