Differential diagnosis
Coexistent bacterial infection may occur with onychomycosis, and it should be remembered that fungal infection may occur in the presence of pre-existing psoriasis or eczema.
Onychomycosis might be confused with the following:
- bacterial nail infection
- onychogryphosis
- psoriasis
- eczema
- Beau's lines
- lichen planus
- alopecia
- onycholysis (1)
- yellow nail syndrome
- twenty-nail dystrophy
- leuconychia
- trauma (1,2)
