Sizing the endotracheal tube
During endotracheal intubation, typical adult sizes are 7 in a female and 8 in a male. In children, there is a formula for selecting the correct size tube: (the age of the child divided by four) plus four. More practically in an emergency, a tube the size of the nostril or little finger is usually adequate.
