Type 1
Type I is characterized by:
- mesangial cell proliferation
- subendothelial electron-dense deposits
- low levels of C3 and C4 (depletion of complement through the classical pathway)
- may be associated with:
- hepatitis B antigenaemia
- bacterial endocarditis
- ventriculo-atrial shunts
- streptococcal infections
- light microscopy
- enlarged glomeruli
- lobulated due to mesangial cell proliferation
- double contour basement membrane
- E.M.
- mesangial interposition
- subendothelial deposits
- immunofluorescence: IgG, C3
