The posterior surface of the clavicle is associated with the following structures, from medial to lateral:

  • sternohyoid muscle; originates from the posteromedial surface and adjoining manubrium sternii
  • subclavian vessels; directly posterior
  • lateral cord of brachial plexus; directly posterior
  • nutrient artery to clavicle:
    • branch of suprascapular artery
    • enters bone running laterally
