Clinical features include:-

  • pain over the medial tibia, at first after running
  • later, during running
  • when severe even climbing stairs can be painful

  • associations:
    • often pain worse in the morning
    • improper footwear
    • exercising on a hard surface, uneven terrain
    • pes planus

  • clinical examination:
    • pitting oedema may be present over the affected area
    • pain on palpation during both rest and exertion
