Aetiology

Authoring team

Causes include:

  • stroke; haemorrhagic or occlusive
  • trauma
  • infection
  • migraine
  • seizure, or post ictal

The aetiology is similar in children and adults, however there is a markedly different emphasis between the two groups; in the elderly stroke is likely to be the most common cause, but in children the aetiology of the stroke itself will be much broader.
