Migraine may also produce transient visual loss but:

  • this begins with photopsia (uniformed flashes of light) or teichopsia (dazzling zigzag lines)
  • flashes move across the visual field for several minutes
  • defects are often bilateral and homonymous - ie. occupy corresponding halves of both visual fields
