Antalgic gait

An antalgic gait describes the manner of walking of someone who is trying to minimise pain in a limb. The commonest cause of the pain is osteoarthritis.

The patient leans to the side of the painful hip and takes a rapid, quite heavy step, followed by a slower step on the unaffected side.
