Treatment
The treatment of Arnold-Chiari malformations consists of:
- ventricular-atrial or ventricular peritoneal shunting if there is evidence of hydrocephalus or raised intracranial pressure.
- posterior fossa decompression is recommended in other cases: the tonsillar adhesions should not be removed. Monitoring for apnoea post-operatively is advised.
