Aetiology
Possible causes of intrauterine asphyxia include:
- maternal asphyxia - lung, heart disease
- poor uterine perfusion - shock, posture, vascular disease
- disease and separation of the placenta
- interruption of the cord, for example prolapse
- foetal anaemia and heart failure
