Calcium channel blocker poisoning may be fatal and it is the cardiovascular effects that kill.

Factors which reduce survival include:

  • large overdose
  • old and obese patients
  • previous cardiac disease
  • concomitant ingestion of other cardiac drugs
  • verapamil worse than diltiazem
  • sustained release worse than short release
