Investigations
Investigations for suspected craniopharyngiomas include:
- plain skull radiology - calcification in or above the pituitary fossa is seen in 80% of cases
- CT - lesion of mixed density in the suprasellar region containing both solid and cystic components
- MRI - clarifies the precise position to the tumour to the third ventricle
- combined pituitary stimulation test - assess need for pituitary hormone replacement therapy
