Froin's syndrome

Froin syndrome is a phenomenon characterized by the triad of:

  • cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) xanthochromia
  • markedly elevated protein, and
  • hypercoagulation

Foin's syndrome is a sign of blockage of CSF flow in the spine. The commonest causes are:

  • advanced spinal tumour
  • spinal meningitis
